What will you discover?
Incredible inventions. Magnificent machines. Fascinating feats of human ingenuity.
Whatever your age, you’ll find a story to feed your curiosity at the Museum of Science and Industry.
Manchester was the world’s first industrial city. Our seven and a half acre site houses the world’s surviving passenger railway station, and the world’s first railway warehouse. On a visit to the museum, you will see amazing objects and learn about the men and women whose ideas, born in Manchester, changed the world forever.
Our daily demonstrations by our talented Explainer team breathe life into our world class collection of textile and industrial machinery. Explain explosions, ground shaking (and ground breaking) machinery and enough steam to blow a gasket.
If you’re visiting during the weekend or during the school holidays, there are extra shows and hands-on workshops for everyone to enjoy.
Our programme for families and adults serves up creative science in a historic setting. Feed your curiosity at Pi: Platform for Investigation, our monthly pop-up science lab suitable for families and adults, supported by Siemens. Experiment after dark at one of our adult-only Late events or visit one of our changing exhibitions to challenge your perceptions of science and industry.
